MONITORING PROGRESS
Staff at Westmill Nursery are committed to monitoring children's progress and sharing this with parents and carers.
Staff take regular observations both written and photographic to record children's progress. These are then collated in children's 'Learning Journeys' and also in our 'Effective Practice' File under each Theme and Committment. Staff share these books with parents regularing giving parents the opportunity to gain an insight into their child's early education.
Part of the Early Years Foundation Stage is divided into six areas of learning
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Physical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Creative development
Each area of learning contains 'Development Matters' leading to an Early Learning Goal. Children are guided through the 'Development Matters' during their time with us. Three times a year children are set Next Steps, which are targets taken from the 'Devlopment Matters'. We help children achieve their Next Steps by carefully providing them with planned learning opportunities. Regular parent meetings give parents and staff the opportunity to share this information and discuss the progress of their child.
